Applying to jobs, grants, fellowships and others got you down buddy? Well, this wont help you at all.
Project Overview
No matter how confident I feel about applying to an opportunity I always experience a moment of disassociation while filling out the application. It's not that I immediately feel negative about the outcome, it's just a repetitive state of despair no matter what. Institutions in the arts are either looking for a very specific person, or the biggest story of triumph. I catch myself asking internally, "How do they identify their underdog amidst all the other underdogs?"
As a designer of a grant myself, I don't even know how to answer this question. The benefit of working with a silent donor who (more or less) has no direct connection to the traditional creative world is that when they read applications, they decide based off of pure feeling. If it were up to me and my bias alone, I'd be stuck. I wouldn't know which variables carried more weight. Which is also how it feels on the other side as an applicant.
Scope of Work
The site was created after discovering a fellowship of interest. The invisible countdown starts when this situation happens — whether or not the deadline is tomorrow or in two months. The farther away the worse feelings, it almost feels like too much time. Why would I need more time to second guess my work, and trigger my own insecurity?
